HARROD, Ohio – The Lima community took to the greens on Saturday for a good cause at the second annual Lima Masters Golf Outing.

The charity event raises funds to help underfunded youth sports programs throughout the region. Last year, the outing raised over $25,000, with all proceeds going directly back into the community.

Many of this year’s participants were former student-athletes, so the event provided an opportunity to reconnect with teammates, see familiar faces, and enjoy a day of friendly competition while giving back to the next generation of players.

“Everyone here either knew each other through sports or was friends with each other at school while playing sports. And there are people you haven’t seen in 20-30 years but recognize by name. When you see them in person, it brings everyone together, and you feel a sense of camaraderie that makes you want to help the upcoming youth sports so they can have the same experiences we did. So being able to expand this year and assist even more organizations than we did last year is really exciting,” said Doug Wade, PGA Professional.

“The overall theme of the group is friendship. I coached and played for many years, and I agree that the most valuable gift an athlete can receive from their experience is friendship. You can ask athletes, coaches, and people who have been involved in the sport for a long time what they remember most. What have they learned? What benefit did they gain from athletics? Everyone will tell you about friendship. And so you have a group of friends here who are raising money for a good cause,” said Bob Seggerson, the event’s honorary starter.
