The Allen County Democratic Party held an LGBTQ+ event Saturday afternoon at Faurot Park.
The Pride Picnic included food, games, and speakers who shared their personal experiences. Organizers stated that the goal was to create a safe, welcoming environment, particularly at a time when members of the LGBTQ+ community feel under attack.
“I want people to understand that the LGBTQ+ community is just like any other subgroup in the United States. We’re doctors, neighbors, and other members of the community.
We simply want to be able to exist freely and safely, without complications, just like everyone else,” said Dylan Gross, organizer of the Pride Picnic.
The Allen County Democrats stated that they hope to hold similar events in the future to increase support for the LGBTQ+ community in the area.
