In Erie County, a garbage truck collides with seven cars

BAYVIEW, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported Tuesday that a garbage truck collided with several drivers, injuring them and damaging their vehicles.

The crash occurred at 3:39 p.m. on State Route 2 near milepost 1 in Margaretta Township, Erie County.

The highway patrol said Cecil Venable Jr., 47, of Vickery, Ohio, was driving a 2024 Mack Terrapro garbage truck owned by Rumpke Transportation Co. eastbound on SR 2 when he encountered congested traffic due to a construction lane change and collided with multiple vehicles.

According to Lt. Shaun Robinson, neither the sequence of events nor the extent of the driver injuries were known late Tuesday.

The seven vehicles involved were a red 2016 Toyota Camry, a gray 2017 Kia Soul, a white 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, a black 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE, a black 2006 GMC Yukon XL, a black 2015 GMC Terrain, and a black 2014 Ford Escape.

Lt. Robinson said no charges had been filed, and the crash was being investigated.
