SIOUX FALLS, SD — A new state law has already resulted in an increase in enforcement in one South Dakota county.

The Move-Over law, which requires drivers to slow down and be alert for any vehicle with flashing lights, resulted in three traffic stops on Interstate 29 for violations.

“One of the most concerning violations involved the large RV pictured below, which passed the deputies’ patrol vehicle at no more than 2-3 feet away, causing the entire vehicle to shake with the force of the draft,” the Roberts County Sheriff’s office stated on Facebook.

Authorities reminded drivers about the new law and urged them to slow down and move over when emergency vehicles were on the side of the road.

“It isn’t just courtesy. “It’s the law,” the post stated.

The new move-over law took effect on July 1.
