NEW HAVEN, IN — Indiana State Police have been called in to investigate a police shooting during a weekend traffic stop involving a 1-year-old child in the vehicle.
On June 28, at 8:30 a.m., a New Haven Police Department officer attempted a traffic stop near Maplecrest Road and State Road 930. Police say the suspect, Delshawn Young, 25, fired shots at the officer.
According to ISP, the New Haven officer returned fire, but did not strike Young.
According to New Haven Police Chief James Krueger, Young was driving a 1-year-old child when the shooting occurred, but he dropped the child off in the middle of the pursuit.
An ISP trooper used the PIT manoeuvre to stop and arrest Young. There were no reported injuries from the shooting, police chase, or PIT manoeuvre.
Young, who had two arrest warrants at the time, has been charged with 11 counts, including attempted murder, neglect of a dependent, probation violation, and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
