Lima, Ohio — The summer heat is affecting some residents more than others, and a Lima councilman is requesting assistance for those in need.

Councilman Derry Glenn is continuing his air conditioning donation program, and he is asking anyone who has new or used air conditioners that are not in use to donate them.

Residents from several counties are on a waiting list for air conditioners. As the summer heat continues, higher temperatures can be particularly dangerous for the elderly and those with medical conditions. According to Glenn, just one act of kindness, such as donating an air conditioner, can save a life.

“We’ve got a list of 80 people who need them right now. And there are 80 elderly people who need them. And we have people who have been sick with diabetes, and it has been difficult right now. So, I’m asking everyone, please, new or used, and if you have a used air conditioner, we’ll come out and pick it up. But we need them desperately. Also, please show your hometown pride. It’s pretty difficult. A lot of people can’t afford them right now. And I mean, they sit in their houses, and the temperature is over 100 degrees,” said Derry Glenn, a Lima City 6th Ward councilman.
