A 32-year-old Wisconsin man will spend several decades in prison after killing his younger sister and shooting both of his parents earlier this year, telling police he was sick of being bullied by his family. A Milwaukee County judge sentenced Gerardo Jimenez-Rico to 35 years in a state correctional facility on Tuesday for the murder of 22-year-old Jocelyn Jimenez, according to court records reviewed by Law&Crime.
Jimenez-Rico pleaded guilty last month to one count each of first-degree reckless homicide, attempted second-degree intentional homicide, and first-degree reckless injury, according to court records. In addition to his time in prison, Jimenez-Rico will have to serve an additional 19 years of supervised release.
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers from the Milwaukee Police Department responded to a reported shooting at a home in the 4000 block of West Cheyenne Street around 6:45 p.m. on January 22, 2025.
When first responders arrived on the scene, they reported entering the home and quickly discovering three adults with gunshot wounds. The youngest victim, Jocelyn Jimenez, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Milwaukee Fire Department.
The injured woman informed officers that her son, Jimenez-Rico, was the one who shot her, her husband, and her daughter. Authorities had barely begun their search for Jimenez-Rico when he entered the District One Milwaukee Police Station and stated that he “had a confession to give.” He then stated that he had “shot someone” and admitted to the attack on his own family.
Jimenez-Rico told detectives that his parents and sister had been on a month-long trip to Mexico and had just returned that evening. He did not travel with his family because “he did not have money to go.”
He told police that his family frequently “gangs up on him because he is unemployed and he feels they bully him.” When they arrived home a few hours earlier, Jimenez-Rico stated that he asked if anyone needed assistance with their luggage and was told that his assistance was not required, so he returned downstairs to his room.
The situation deteriorated from there.
“His father then came down and complained about the dirty dishes in the sink. According to the affidavit, Jimenez-Rico explained that the sink was clogged and the pipe/plumbing required attention. “Upstairs, Jimenez-Rico said his father continued to ‘get on his case,’ and his sister joined in the complaint. He stated that the bullying had been going on for “many years, and he just got fed up with it.”
Jimenez-Rico claimed he had a handgun in his waistband during the subsequent argument with his father, who told him “that he needed to find another place to live.” Jimenez-Rico stated that during the argument, he asked “if he was really being kicked out over dirty dishes” while his father and sister “continued on his case.”
“Jimenez-Rico said he thought about going back to the basement where his bedroom is, ‘but then he said he was just fed up with putting up with the bullying from his father and his sister,'” according to the declaration. “He went on to say that ‘he pointed the gun in his father’s direction and recalls firing it more than once.’
Jimenez-Rico claimed that after shooting his father, his sister “armed herself with a knife,” so he “then shot her to prevent getting stabbed,” according to police. An autopsy revealed that she had four gunshot wounds to the lungs, chest, back, and arm.
He shot his mother as she entered the room, but “he did not intend” to shoot her and “could not explain why he did.”
