An Arkansas man is accused of murdering his mother, stepfather, and sister in the early hours of June 22.

Jarrod Mitchell, 34, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of the victims, whose names have yet to be released by police.

Their bodies were discovered by the sister’s husband when he returned home from work on Sunday morning, according to a Bryant Police Department press release.

According to police, there were three children at home at the time of the murders, but none were injured in the attack.

According to the BPD, all three victims died of gunshot wounds. They arrived at the scene around 7:30 a.m. and began their initial investigation into the incident.

Police stated in the release that “there were no signs of forced entry or signs of this being a home invasion.”

Police arrested Mitchell eight hours later and booked him into the Saline County Detention Center, where he is still being held without bail pending his first court appearance, according to jail records.

According to court records, Mitchell has been arrested and convicted of nonviolent drug charges several times.

He was also committed against his will in 2017, while living with his grandparents.

PEOPLE obtained a copy of Mitchell’s grandparents’ petition, in which they expressed concern about their grandson’s alleged substance abuse and threats to his family.

“On 6/18/17, he threatened his mother, her husband, and his sister,” the petition read. “He had knives laid out on the bed and one on his person.”

The petition claims Mitchell punched holes in the wall before being arrested for alleged terroristic threats.

In response to that filing, a judge ordered Mitchell to be committed to a detox facility for no longer than 21 days.

In his order, the judge stated that there was “clear and convincing evidence that [Mitchell] is or may be addicted to alcohol or other drugs, and that [Mitchell] is homicidal, suicidal, or gravely disabled.”

Mitchell allegedly killed his family members on June 19, 2025, nearly eight years after filing that lawsuit.

The BPD’s public information officer tells PEOPLE that the investigation is still ongoing.

In the meantime, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help with funeral expenses.
