A Texas man is heading to prison for locking a pregnant woman up inside his RV and beating her unconscious — telling the expectant mother, “Welcome to Hell House,” before he started “punching, kicking and kneeing her,” prosecutors say.
Andrew Gutierrez, 35, was sentenced to 25 years in prison last week after being found guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in relation to the 2024 attack, according to the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office. He also has a 2016 conviction of “assault family violence continuous” and served five years in prison for the charge.
In January 2024, Bryan police, located about 100 miles east of Austin, responded to the defendant’s home after receiving a disconnected 911 call. “Upon arrival, they discovered the victim severely beaten and requiring immediate medical attention,” the DA’s office stated in a press release on Friday.
First responders noted “severe bruising” and swelling on the victim’s face, stomach, and chest. The victim said she was 11 weeks pregnant at the time.
“Police spoke with the victim, who stated that she and the defendant got into an argument,” the DA’s office said. “The defendant then locked her in the RV and stated ‘Welcome to Hell House,’ threatening to make sure she didn’t have the baby.”
Gutierrez grabbed the woman by her hair and “repeatedly punched her in the face and stomach” before grabbing a 10-inch kitchen knife. He threatened to kill her and held the knife up to her neck before continuing his attack.
“The victim begged him to stop, and he threw the knife on a table but continued punching, kicking, and kneeing the victim until she lost consciousness,” the DA’s office said. “While the defendant was outside the RV disposing of evidence from the crime scene, the victim called 911, gave an address, and hung up.”
The woman told Gutierrez she needed medical attention, so he forced her to “fabricate a story” about two females assaulting her “so that he would not get in trouble,” according to the district attorney’s office. “Bryan Police responded quickly to the scene and were able to place the defendant in custody and figure out what actually happened,” the office said.
In addition to the victim’s statements, additional evidence, including a kitchen knife, was located at the scene and officers observed signs of a disturbance inside of the trailer, including broken glass and blood. Gutierrez was arrested and charged with both family violence and assault. He must serve at least half his sentence before he can be eligible for parole, per the DA’s office.
