Avon Lake Celebrates Its First Summerfest

Avon Lake residents enjoyed the warmer weather this weekend, as the City of Avon Lake hosted its first Summerfest Celebration to commemorate the official start of summer. The event took place this past Saturday at Miller Road Park and lasted from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. It included live music, food trucks, games, and community camaraderie for all attendees.

And revelers there were, with hundreds of people of all ages congregating throughout the park to enjoy the festivities. The event began with a performance by the unique trio North Coast Prost, who performed songs on Alp Horns while dressed in their finest lederhosen.

Route 161 entertained fans behind them on the gazebo by performing classic rock and country. A makeshift dance floor was set up just to the west of the gazebo.

Three food trucks lined the gazebo, serving Babcia’s Kitchen’s Polish classics, 808 Shaved Ice’s cold treats, and Telos Truck’s famous lemonade and hot dogs. Beer and other adult beverages were available from John Christ Winery and Laughing Bomb Beer. The proceeds from the sales will benefit the Friends of the Park in Avon Lake, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the city’s parks and recreational spaces through fundraising, community events, and park improvement projects.

Corn hole, hula hoops, and a large bounce house were among the games offered.

Erin Fachs, Avon Lake parks and recreation director, was on hand to help with and oversee the event. He explained that the inaugural event was intended to test the waters and gauge residents’ reactions to an event that would run alongside the Summer Concert Series. Fachs expressed interest in hearing from attendees about their experiences at the event and encouraged them to contact his office.

And the event had an almost pseudo-Oktoberfest feel, with Bavarian music and dancers, as well as a stein holding contest.
