Lorain County, Ohio – An Elyria suspect accused of stabbing a man in the face broke a Lorain County Sheriff’s deputy’s ribs during a fight in court on Thursday.
Andrew Davison, 41, was found guilty on Thursday and sentenced to 15 to 20 years in prison for the stabbing.
Davison can be seen on video leaving the Lorain County courtroom.
Lorain County Sheriff Jack Hall also told 19 News Davison said, “I’m not going back to prison again, you’re going to have to kill me,” before the fight.
Davison then pushes one of the deputies.
The two deputies and another person engage in a fight and attempt to apprehend the suspect. The video shows both parties throwing punches.
Finally, the officials wrestle Davison to the ground.
According to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), Davison attempted to gouge out one of the officers’ eyes.
Officials also used a stun gun on Davison.
Lorain County Sheriff Jack Hall told 19 News that Deputy Jeff Smith is still in the hospital after the fight, with four broken ribs and a cracked sternum.
Smith has only been with the LCSO for two weeks. He’s a retired Lorain police officer.
Davison was sentenced for charges filed in June 2024. According to Lorain Police, Davison stabbed another man several times in the face and head.
The attack took place on June 16 in a vacant lot near West Avenue and 16th Street.
Police arrived at University Hospital Elyria Medical Center around 10:15 a.m. after the victim was taken to the emergency room.
While officers were at the assault scene, they said they found Andrew Davison, who admitted to the crime and was still carrying the knife.
Davison faces three counts of felonious assault and one count of resisting arrest in connection with the courtroom brawl.
He is due back in court on June 26.
