Irving, Texas – Police recently arrested a 61-year-old man on suspicion of fatally stabbing his 29-year-old neighbor more than 30 years ago.

According to the Irving Police Department, Megan Johns did not show up for work on October 5, 1994. The apartment manager reportedly discovered Johns’ body on the living room floor, stabbed multiple times.

Investigators suspected Johns knew her attacker and allowed him in because there was no evidence of forced entry. Police discovered the home had been ransacked, implying that the suspect was looking for something or that Johns attempted to fight off her attacker.

According to police, Johns struggled with drugs and alcohol before getting clean. She was allegedly helping people become sober at the time of her death and was in the company of people with a history of drug and alcohol abuse.

Officials discovered a palm print on the scene and interviewed witnesses, but no arrests were made, and the case went cold.

Police say they recently tested DNA and entered a profile into the Combined DNA Index System. As a result, authorities named Darryl Goggans as the prime suspect. Goggans allegedly lived next door to Johns at the time of her death.

Goggans was arrested on June 10th and charged with capital murder. He remains in the Irving City Jail.
