A North Carolina woman is facing charges after she allegedly caused another car to collide with three girls operating a lemonade stand in a mobile home park.
According to Queen City News, Haley Erin McCorkle, 24, was allegedly attempting to turn left out of a driveway when she collided with an oncoming Nissan Altima. The impact of the collision caused the Nissan Altima to veer off the road and into a front yard where three girls were selling lemonade.
The girls, aged 7, 8, and 9, were all critically injured and rushed to a nearby hospital, according to police. Two of the girls were airlifted to the hospital, while the third was transported in an ambulance.
“I was right there, and it just happened so fast,” a sister of one of the girls told Queen City News. “I just ran and got my mom.”
McCorkle was charged with a misdemeanor for failing to yield the right of way, resulting in bodily injury, according to WSOC-TV. Investigators do not believe she was impaired or speeding at the time of the accident.
According to local media reports, the driver of the Nissan Altima will not face any charges. The crash caused no injuries to either of the drivers.
“We thought all three of them were dead,” Jessica Tallent, mother of one of the girls involved in the crash, told WCNC. “It’s been incredibly emotional. “I was crying my eyes out.”
The girls’ families and loved ones hope they will recover quickly from their injuries. “It’s very hard,” David Denton, a family member of one of the girls, told the publication. “The parents shouldn’t have to see nothing like that.”
