St. Mary’s Coach Ceccoli ends career as varsity boys basketball coach

SANDUSKY – St. Mary Central Catholic High School Coach Chris Ceccoli has resigned as the head varsity boys basketball coach for the Panthers.

Ceccoli, a 1988 St. Mary’s graduate, has been the Panthers’ head coach for the past five seasons.

“The last several years have been special for me,” Ceccoli said. “Having the chance to return to my alma mater and coach the basketball team has been a dream come true. I have enjoyed reconnecting with the people and families of Panther Nation and building strong relationships with my players. I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything.”

Ceccoli had a 59-58 overall record with the Panthers. In his first season, he coached the Panthers to a share of the 2019 Sandusky Bay Conference River Division championship.

Ceccoli served as the head coach for the Edison Chargers from 2005-11. Under Ceccoli, Edison won SBC titles in 2009 and 2011.

“I plan to spend more time with my wife and family,” Ceccoli said. “I feel the program is in a good place right now. Our numbers are solid, we have streamlined our youth programs, and we have some talented players returning. The administration has always been supportive of its coaches. The parents have as well. Whoever takes over the program is stepping into a good situation.”

Those interested in applying to be the next head boys basketball coach for the Panthers should send a letter of interest, resume and list of references to St. Mary Central Catholic Athletic Director Steve Ruthsatz at sruthsatz@sanduskycc.org.
