DAYTON, Ohio –  One man was arrested following an armed standoff in Mercer County on Friday morning.

According to the Celina Police Department, officers responded to a domestic violence call in the 500 block of S. Walnut St. around 9 a.m.

When officers arrived, they discovered a 39-year-old man who allegedly assaulted two adult women. According to those on the scene, the man opened the door while brandishing a filet knife.

A 15-year-old teenager was inside the house.

Officials said they had received reports that the 39-year-old was acting strangely and may want to die. He was out on bond for prior felony charges in Mercer County Common Pleas Court.

The stand-off lasted about an hour and a half. Officers were able to remove the teen from a bedroom window.

The 39-year-old approached the front door several times but refused to surrender.

Officers used a less lethal shotgun (bean bag rounds) to subdue him. He was able to go back and secure the door.

As officers began breaking down the front door, he attempted to flee through the back. He was confronted by other officers and taken into custody.

He is being held in Mercer County Jail on a $100,000 bond for a variety of misdemeanor charges, including domestic violence, assault, inducing panic, obstructing official business, and resisting arrest.

His case is being reviewed by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s office.

“Celina Police were assisted on the scene by Mercer County Sheriff’s Office deputies. Members of the Celina Police Department’s Tactical Response Team were dispatched to make the entry.

Coldwater Police handled other calls in Celina while officers were involved in the standoff. “We would like to thank all agencies and Mercer County Prosecutor Erin Minor for their assistance,” Celina PD wrote.
