An arrest has been made in connection with the death of a Virginia mother who was discovered wrapped in a bloody comforter in her home’s closet.
The Newport News Police Department announced that David Anderson, 30, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 28-year-old Imani Parrish. He was arrested Monday.
Officers responded to the 600 block of Antrim Drive around 9 p.m. on April 30 because Parrish was not returning her 10-year-old son’s calls and texts, and Parrish’s mother asked her partner to investigate because she thought her unresponsiveness was unusual, according to the Daily Press.
When the partner arrived, he reportedly discovered her dead.
According to court documents reviewed by local outlet WAVY, detectives on the scene discovered Parrish’s body “shoved” in a bedroom closet and wrapped in a blood-soaked comforter. There was also a trail of blood from the bathroom to the closet.
According to the local medical examiner’s office, the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, and glass fragments were found in Parrish’s body and clothing.
Parrish was more than just a mother to a 10-year-old son; she was also a “beloved” daughter, sister, granddaughter, aunt, and friend, according to her obituary. She was a painter, and “her smile, laughter, and energy lit up every gathering.”
“Imani will be remembered for her natural beauty, infectious smile, kindness, strength and the love she gave so freely,” the funeral notice went on to state.
According to WAVY, her family believed the killer was someone close to her. It is unclear what kind of relationship she may have had with Anderson, but police said he was identified as a suspect “over the course of the investigation.”
“She really cared about that person,” her mother, Nichole Parrish, told WAVY in mid-May, though it’s unclear who she was referring to. “She cared deeply, but I hope justice will be served. Please turn yourself in.
