A Lorain man is facing additional charges in Lorain County Common Pleas Court after leading a nine-hour manhunt on March 27 involving multiple local, state, and federal police agencies.

A Lorain County grand jury indicted James D. Meadows, 37, on felony charges of escape, tampering with evidence, assault on a law enforcement officer, cocaine possession, and obstruction, as well as misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and obstructing official business, according to court records.

He was being held at the Lorain County Jail on a $100,000 bond, according to jail records. Court records were not available online on Thursday, but the case has been assigned to Judge Melissa Kobasher.

Meadows was arrested on a warrant on March 27 after allegedly assaulting two Sheffield police officers. Meadows allegedly drove recklessly to avoid arrest, leading officers and deputy marshals on a brief chase before fleeing his vehicle and running into a wooded area along Russia Road.

Several law enforcement agencies searched the area. Meadows was apprehended by the United States Marshals Service after nine hours on the run while attempting to meet up with his girlfriend in Elyria.

Meadows was pursued by Lorain County Sheriff’s deputies, State Highway Patrol troopers, Elyria, Oberlin, and South Amherst police armed with drones, K-9 teams, and aircraft, according to jail and court records. Meadows has a lengthy criminal history that includes numerous drug-related arrests.
